The Real AF Doula Sales Script That Actually Converts: What to Say to Book More Clients

You know what blows my mind?

The number of doulas who can walk into a birth and hold the whole damn room together…

…but the second they hop on a consult, they’re suddenly like:

“Umm… so… my package includes…”

And then the soul leaves their body.

And listen, I get it.

Sales conversations feel vulnerable.

You’re not hiding behind education or comfort or your doula cape.
It’s just you, your voice, your energy, and another human deciding whether to trust you with the most intimate moment of their life.

Of course that feels big.

But deep down? You know this already:

It’s not your lack of confidence.
It’s not your lack of followers.
It’s not the fact that you don’t have the perfect script.

It’s that you’re trying to sound right instead of being real.

You’re performing the version of you you think mothers want.

And that version?

She’s polished.
Perfect.
Prepared.
She doesn’t miss a beat.

And she’s broke.

So today, we’re not doing polished.

We’re doing real.

The version of you clients actually say yes to.
The version who isn’t trying to sound like an Instagram doula influencer.
The version who connects, listens, leads, and holds emotional space so effortlessly you forget you’re even “selling.”

Let’s get into it.

Why Doulas Think They Need a Script

Look, I know why you want a script.

Scripts feel safe.
Scripts feel like the answer.
Scripts make you believe,
“If I say the exact right sentence, she’ll book.”

Last week one of my clients literally said:

“Lisa, can you just write the whole thing for me? Word for word? I want it done-for-you.”

And I could have.

I could write a script that would blow your mind.
One that would make a grown man cry.
One that converts like crazy.

But here’s the truth I had to tell her:

If I write your script, you will forever depend on me to sell your offers.

And that is the opposite of empowerment.

This isn’t about scripts.
This is about resonance.

Why Scripts Don’t Work (For Most Doulas)

Scripts fall flat because:

  • You end up reading, not connecting

  • You sound like someone else

  • You stop listening

  • You stop asking curious questions

  • You talk at them instead of with them

  • You disconnect from your intuition

  • You turn into a performer instead of a guide

  • You slip into “Good Girl Mode,” trying to impress instead of understand

And clients feel it instantly.

They can smell inauthentic energy from a mile away.

Most scripts don’t work because:

They’re built around the words… not the woman saying them.

Why Scripts Can Work (When They’re Done Right)

Don’t get it twisted, I’m not anti-script.

I’m anti bad script.
Anti bro-vibes.
Anti rigid, robotic, “read this word-for-word” nonsense.

A great script- the right framework- gives you:

  • Structure

  • Clarity

  • Flow

  • Confidence

  • An anchor

  • Safety

  • A grounded, feminine way to lead the call

But the only scripts that convert are the ones rooted in:

  • Your tone

  • Your story

  • Your lived experience

  • Your personality

  • Your energy

  • Your boundaries

  • Your identity

  • Your philosophy around birth

Otherwise? It’s like wearing someone else’s clothes and pretending they fit.

(And meanwhile I’m standing at the mic in cheetah print leggings and a fuchsia crop top. You’re welcome.)

The Client Story (Why You Wouldn’t Write Hers)

So when my client said:

“Just tell me what to say.”

I had to sit with her and explain:

“Babe, the magic is not in the sentence.
The magic is in YOU.”

If I hand you the lines, you’ll always need more lines.
You grow dependent on someone else’s voice.
Someone else’s delivery.
Someone else’s confidence.

And the deeper issue?

You skip the reflection required for transformation.

Because to create your own script, one that sells your world-class, one-of-a-kind, life-changing support, you have to ask:

Who am I as a leader?
What do I believe about birth?
What do I want my clients to feel?
What is the deeper promise of my support?
Why do I do this work?
What do I stand for?
What do I refuse to do?
How do I want her to remember this conversation?

So we walked through my HEART-Led Method, and she had one of those full-body:

“OHHHHHHHHH.”

She wasn’t guessing anymore.
She wasn’t performing.

She just spoke like herself, from the heart.

The HEART-Led Method (Explained Simply + Emotionally)

Here’s what my method really does:

H — Hello
You ground the room. Not with professionalism, with presence.

E — Extract
You pull out her deeper story, the part she’s never said out loud.

A — Align
You show her she’s not alone. You understand her on a level most people don’t.

R — Reveal
You help her name what she deeply, quietly wants, in her own words.

Layer by layer.
Pitch without the ick.

T — Tackle
You hold space for fears, logistics, objections, gently, calmly, confidently.

And THIS is what makes scripts work:

Not the words.
The self-awareness the words come from.

What to Actually Say (A Taste of the Real AF Script)

If you want lines that open the conversation instead of shutting it down, use questions like:

“What would make you feel the most held?”
“What do you want your birth story to feel like one year from now?”
“Is there anything making this decision feel heavy or confusing?”

These are connection lines.
They create safety.
They help women feel seen.

And when a woman feels seen?

She buys.

You want the Real AF Doula-script?

Here it is:

Say the thing you mean.
Ask the thing you’re scared to ask.
Lead the way you lead in a birth room…
and in a postpartum home 48 hours after baby arrives earthside.

Stop trying to impress.
Start trying to connect.

Your real voice converts better than your perfect one.

A script doesn’t make you money.

A feminine framework does.
Alignment does.
Presence does.
Confidence does.
Clarity does.

And that is what makes your clients say yes.
